OVERVIEW
--------
TURBO FMS LISTER is an RBBS Directory Utility to sort your FMS.DIR
(or whatever you have named it) into an organized, pleasing,
quality, ALLFILES.TXT listing which you can make available to all
those who call your BBS system for downloading. Further, it has
the ability to create separate listings of your files, according
to year, and/or category. For example, you can create a list of
ONLY files which were uploaded in the year 1992. Another listing
you can make is ONLY the files in your BUSINESS directory. You
can also incorporate these two features into another feature to
make a listing which contains _ONLY_ the files uploaded in the year
1992 that appear in your BUSINESS directory. These features should
make these specific lists more appealing to your users.
(NOTE: Only Registered versions will have the ability to make a
specific category-only listing.)
TURBO FMS LISTER is lightning-fast! It can routinely sort and
create an ALLFILES.TXT file from a 500+K FMS.DIR file in LESS than
18 seconds in a Ram Drive, making it perfect for your nightly
event file to keep your ALLFILES.TXT list current.
INSTRUCTIONS
------------
First of all, you need the following files in the same directory where you
will be running the TURBO FMS LISTER:
TOP.TXT Text File to be Inserted at the TOP of the ALLFILES.TXT File.
BOT.TXT Text File to be Appended at the BOTTOM of the ALLFILES.TXT File.
FMS.DIR Your MASTER directory that RBBS searches for File Listings.
CATEGORY.CAT RBBS's Category File
You can name these 4 files anything you like, as long as you include these
preferenced names in the CONFIG.EXE program when run. (Examples of these
4 files are included in the small archive, EXAMPLES.ZIP).
TOP.TXT and BOT.TXT can be created with ANY Ascii Text File Editor. FMS.DIR
and CATEGORY.CAT should be _EXACTLY_ as they are in your operational RBBS.
CATEGORY.CAT contains 3 Fields. The first, is simply what you named that
specific area. The second, is the actual character designation that is being
included at the end of the file description in your FMS.DIR (or MASTER.DIR)
Directory. It is IMPERATIVE that Field 2 of your CATEGORY.CAT file matches
100% with your area descriptor in your FMS.DIR file. The 3rd field can be
named anything you want.
When you have these needed files in a directory, along with the TFMS.EXE
file, simply type TFMS at the command line, and your ALLFILES.TXT file will
be created. The program will first Sort the File Listings, and then begin
to write the sorted list back out to disk. That's really all there is to it.
You will notice that the UNREGISTERED version cannot be run from a batch file
due to the KeyPress Demand at the beginning of the program. Please be aware
that registration of the program will eliminate this, so you can easily run
it in your nightly event batch file.
COMMAND LINE OPTIONS
--------------------
What makes the TURBO FMS LISTER special, (other than the extreme speed), are
the built-in options that you can invoke from the command line. If you want
to make a sorted list which contains only files from 1992 from your FMS.DIR
file, simply type TFMS 92 on the command line, and it ALL1992.TXT will be
created, containing ONLY files from 1992. It works the same way for any year
in the 1900's. If you would like to make a list which contains only the
files in your BUSINESS directory, type TFMS <BUSINESS DIRECTORY> on the
command line, and ALL<BUSINESS DIRECTORY>.TXT will be created. (Note:
<BUSINESS DIRECTORY> is the 3 character directory you have assigned as your
business directory, which appears in your CATEGORY.CAT file. The Format of
this file appears in the RBBS Docs.) To make a listing of EACH separate file
category on your system, type TFMS /S at the command line and each area will
be created. If you are not sure of the exact format of the options available
in the TURBO FMS LISTER, simply type TFMS ? and all possibilities will be
listed on your screen for your convenience and review.
